TROUBLESHOOTING

 

HARD RESET:

A hard reset should be done if the ShotKam will no turn ON/OFF, or there is no red LED when charging.

    Steps to complete a hard reset (this will NOT erase any of your videos):

    1. Unscrew the rear cap.
    2. Straighten out one end of a paper clip.
    3. Carefully insert the paper clip into the small hole below the control button.
    4. Gently push the reset button. You will feel resistance, but don’t press too hard.
    5. Turn the ShotKam ON with a push of the control button.
    6. Screw the rear cap back on by twisting to the right. Ensure it is firmly in place, but not over-tightened.

     

    BATTERY NOT LASTING:

    This could be due to extreme temperatures. Please perform this battery test at home:

    1. Charge your ShotKam via the provided USB cable to your computer for 3 hours. The red LED will stay solid once fully charged.
    2. Disable sleep mode: Turn the ShotKam into Wi-Fi mode, then connect a smartphone or tablet to the ShotKam’s Wi-Fi. Open the Shotkam app, tap on the settings icon (gear), tap on “Wake-Up Sensitivity,” then select “Sleep Disabled - Caution / 1 Hour Battery Life.”
    3. Close the app and turn the ShotKam OFF.
    4. Now turn the ShotKam ON into normal shooting mode (one click of the control button; 1 solid green LED).
    5. Time how long it lasts before it turns off. The “standard” battery life in testing mode is 55 minutes. Keep the camera in a cool room or under a fan. CAUTION: It will get very hot; this is normal in test mode.

     

    RETICLE ALIGNMENT DID NOT SAVE:

    In order to save your reticle alignment, you must hit the "Save" button or back arrow in the ShotKam app. Please follow our manual instructions or watch our step-by-step tutorial on aligning the reticle.

     

    MISSED RECORDINGS:

    In order for a shot to be saved, it must be taken within 20 seconds of powering on the camera or closing the action (or 30 seconds when hunting). If there is no activitiy for 20 seconds, thent he camera will go into sleep mode to conserve battery. You will notice a slow flashing green LED when in sleep mode. Either press the control button, close the action, or bump the gun to wakent he ShotKam (1 solid green LED).

    Check that all of your settings are on "Normal" and that the ShotKam is wakening when the action is closed (LED will turn solid green).

     

    SEEING THE SHOT PATTERN:

    The ShotKam videos can be slowed down to see the shot pattern, but you will not be able to see it well against a tree background. This is not a big concern, however, as seeing the pattern is typically not very informative. We encourage our customers to study the 10 - 15 pictures (frames) right before the shot was taken. The ShotKam takes 100 frames per second (fps), and studying the 15 frames before the shot is where you will be able to see why you missed (or broke) it. Look for things like collapsing lead which indicates that your eyes "measured" the lead. Studying the hold-point, matching the speed of the bird, and studying the swing and break-point are where the ShotKam can help.

     

    WHY ARE MY VIDEOS SLANTED?

    Check that the ShotKam is mounted directly under your barrel with the rubber pads of the bracket fitting into the grooves of the ShotKam tube. If they are, then the slant is due to the gun being canted (a tilted mount).

     

    COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING SHOTKAM

    The most common reason for this is that the ShotKam was not ejected safely. Try plugging the ShotKam into a different USB port or a different computer, then safely ejecting it. To safely eject your ShotKam, right-click on "ShotKam" from the left menu (under Devices) and select "Eject."

    For Mac users: locate "ShotKam" from the left menu (under Devices) and hold the "CTRL" key and click, then select "Eject." Or, click the blue eject icon to the right of "ShotKam."

     

    WHAT DOES THIS LED SEQUENCE MEAN?

    FLASHING BLUE + RED = Your ShotKam's memory is full. Delete shots from the ShotKam (while connected to your computer), and then empty your computer's Trash Bin. The videos are not erased until you empty the Trash Bin.

    SOLID BLUE + RED = Internal error. Please contact us at support@shotkam.com.

    ALTERNATING BLUE, RED, GREEN, YELLOW = Internal error. Please contact us at support@shotkam.com.

    Any other abnormal LED sequence, please contact us at support@shotkam.com.

    Operation

    Start with the ShotKam OFF, then hold control button down:

      • 0-2 Seconds = Normal Shooting Mode (Green LED)
      • 2-10 Seconds = Wi-Fi Mode (Yellow + Green LED)
      • 15+ Seconds = Laser Mode
      • Click Once = Power ON/OFF
      • Click Once = Waken from Sleep Mode (Flashing Green LED)

     

    LED Lights

    SOLID LEDs:

    Ready to shoot (NOTE: Flashing blue LED will come on after the recoil to indicate a shot was saved).

    If NO LED lights come on, then perform a hard reset using the small reset hole. Once complete, fully charge.

     

    STEP 1 – MOUNT YOUR SHOTKAM

    ENSURE YOUR GUN IS EMPTY 

    A. Lay gun on its side on a flat surface, with the barrel end hanging off the edge (a table or countertop is best). 

    B. Remove the 12G bracket that comes attached to your ShotKam using the provided Allen key. There is a spare Allen key in your spare parts bag if needed. 

    C. With the USB connector port facing up and closest to the barrel, place brackets on the ShotKam, ensuring that the rubber ridge of the pad aligns with the indentation in the ShotKam.      

      • * Always mount the ShotKam 3 to 10 inches from the muzzle end of the barrel (NOT on barrel porting holes).  

        D. Using the Allen key, tighten the brackets around the barrel, alternating between screws to ensure correct and even placement, but not yet tightening completely. 

        E. Ensure that the camera is directly under the barrel and finish tightening the screws - DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.  

         

          STEP 2 - DOWNLOAD THE “SHOTKAM” APP

          *The app is for Smartphones (Android or iPhone), iPads, or Tablets. The app does NOT work on a computer. 

          A. In the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android), search for “Shotkam” (not ShotKamPro or ShotKam 2016) and download the free appDo not open the app yet. 

           

          INITIATE THE BUILT-IN WI-FI:

          • * The ShotKam is equipped with its own Wi-Fi; it is a direct connection between your phone/iPad/tablet and the ShotKam. You do not need cellular data, a hotspot, bluetooth, or to be in range of another network/internet source.

          B. Start with your ShotKam OFF, then turn ON the Wi-Fi by pressing and holding the power button for 3+ seconds. Both orange LED lights should come on; wait about 10 seconds until 1 orange LED stops flashing. Once it stops, the other LED will turn green. You are now in Wi-Fi mode. The ShotKam itself has Wi-Fi, so you do not need any other Wi-Fi source. 

          C. Going back to your phone/iPad/tablet, ensure the Wi-Fi is turned ON and go to the device’s settings (Connections > Wi-Fi) and select “Wi-Fi.”

          D. A list of available networks will appear, select “SHOTKAM.”  If you do not see this network, then refresh your list and tap on “SHOTKAM” to connect. Once connected, you may see “Security Recommendation” or “Connected, No Internet.” These are normal messages and your ShotKam Wi-Fi is connected. The Wi-Fi is a direct connection.

          E. Once you are connected to this network, exit your device’s Wi-Fi screen by pressing its “Home” button; now open the ShotKam app.


          NOTE: If the app does not open, then check that your device is still connected to the ShotKam Wi-Fi network. If the app is still not opening, charge the ShotKam for 2 hours and try again.

           

          STEP 3 - ADJUST THE SETTINGS

          To adjust your shooting device (break-action, semi-auto, etc) or target type (clay or hunting),  press the gear icon.

            Once you have adjusted any settings, you must hit “Back” or “Save” button in the top left corner. Next you will need to align the reticle; continue below.

            TO ALIGN THE RETICLE (POINT-OF-AIM INDICATOR):
            ENSURE YOUR GUN IS EMPTY

            *The reticle is the red dot or crosshair seen in our videos. This is a patented reticle alignment system available only through ShotKam. 

            A. Place your gun on a table and point it at a stationary target about 10-30 yards away; align the bead of the gun to the center of the target. We provide an orange target sticker, but you can use any target (e.g. the corner of a roof, tree branch etc.). 

            B. Put your ShotKam into Wi-Fi mode by pressing and holding the power button for 3+ seconds. Both orange LED lights should come on; wait about 10 seconds until 1 orange LED stops flashing. Once it stops, the other LED should turn green. You are now in Wi-Fi mode.
            C. Go to your smartphone and connect to the “ShotKam” Wi-Fi network. 
            D. Open the ShotKam app. 
            E. You will now see the reticle in the center of your screen. If not, your ShotKam may have gone into sleep mode - simply press the power button once to waken it, or bump it. The reticle will now appear.
            F. To align the reticle, tap on the orange crosshair icon (bottom right). 
            G. Use the arrows to center the reticle on the target. You can hold or tap arrows; allow a few seconds for Wi-Fi delay. 
            H. Once the reticle is centered on the target, hit the orange back arrow or  “Save” button on the top left corner of your screen to save the reticle alignment settings.

            I. Exit the app, then turn off the ShotKam (one press of the power button, or two if it is in sleep mode).

            *REMEMBER TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERY PRIOR TO SHOOTING - APPROX. 2 HOURS THE NIGHT BEFORE OR MORNING OF (CHARGING OVERNIGHT WILL NOT HARM THE BATTERY OR CAMERA).

             

            HUNTING WITH YOUR SHOTKAM:

            A. First, change the target type to “Flying Birds” or “Ground Game” using the ShotKam app.

            B. When standing with a loaded gun in the field, the ShotKam will need woken up before shooting. Waken the camera by bumping the fore-end or stock of the gun.  Do this when you see a bird approaching. If a shot is taken within 30 seconds of wakening the ShotKam, the video will be saved. If not, the camera will go back into sleep mode. Bumping the gun will restart the 30 second timer.

            We suggest you practice wakening your ShotKam a few times at home:

            A. With an unloaded gun, close the action and allow the camera to go into sleep mode (approximately 30 seconds).
            B. Imagine a bird flying in and bump the fore-end or stock of the gun to waken the ShotKam.

            NOTE: Once the gun has been bumped to waken the ShotKam (solid green LED), it will stay awake for 30 seconds. If a shot is taken within the 30 seconds, then it will be saved (blue LED). If not, the camera will go back into sleep mode to conserve battery power. Only the recoil will trigger the blue LED.

             

            STEP 4 – CHARGING/BATTERY


            The ShotKam has an internal battery which is rechargeable via the USB port. This battery cannot be accessed directly. The life-expectancy is 3 years and a battery replacement costs $40.

            Battery life in normal shooting mode, from fully charged, is:
                Clay Shooting: 4 - 5 hours
                Hunting: 4 - 6 hours (produces longer videos)

            Battery life in Wi-Fi mode is typically 1 hour. The Wi-Fi mode is for adjusting the ShotKam's settings and for “in-the-field” shot-analysis of problematic targets.

            CHARGING THE BATTERY

            Normal charging is via USB port to computer. Our USB cable will convert to the correct voltage, so it can be plugged into any computer or wall adapter internationally.

            A. Remove the rear cap and ensure the ShotKam is OFF.

            B. Use the provided USB cable and place the smaller end into the port of the camera, ensuring the direction of the plug is matched to the direction of the camera port.

            C. Plug the USB port into your computer or the provided wall adapter (flashing red LED = charging). A car adapter with a USB port will also work.

            D. Allow for approximately 2 hours to fully charge. (Solid red LED = fully charged)

            NOTE: Charge within 24 hours of the shooting. The battery will NOT be harmed if left on the charger overnight. 

            E. Remove the USB cable and place the rear cap back. Ensure it is firmly in place, but not over-tightened. Remember, this rear cap with the clear membrane, when correctly in place, is what makes the ShotKam weatherproof as it protects the USB port.

            WEATHER AND YOUR BATTERY

            The ShotKam is made to operate in temperatures from 32°F-110°F (0°C-43°C).
            Extreme cold will shorten your battery life. If you plan to shoot in temperatures below 32°F, then you can extend the battery life by placing hand-warmers around the ShotKam.

            STEP 5 - MEMORY CARD

            We use Class 10, 64GB microSD cards. A 64GB card holds approximately 2,000 clay videos. 

            To delete videos:

            A. Highlight the shots that you would like to delete (or select the Folder)

            B. Press the Delete key on your keyboard

            c. Empty the Trash Bin on your computer while the ShotKam is still connected

             

            STEP 6 - READY TO SHOOT

            CLAY SHOOTING

            A. Turn ON the ShotKam with one click of the button (one green LED)
            B. Load the gun and close the action (LED will turn solid green = ready)
            C. Shoot within 20 seconds of closing the action (blue LED will come on after the recoil)
            D. Turn OFF at the end of the day

            NOTE: Do not shoot when in Wi-Fi mode - the ShotKam can only record at half the frame-rate when in this mode (50fps instead of 100fps).

            ShotKams are not for selfies.

            Read all of the gun or bow manufacturer’s safety information and safety instructions before handling the gun or bow, installing the ShotKam, or using the ShotKam on a gun or bow. Read and apply all of their instructions before using the ShotKam camera to avoid injury.

            WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in fire, electric shock, or other injury or damage.

            Lithium-Ion Battery handling:

            The lithium-ion battery inside the ShotKam may present a hazard if mistreated. Do not disassemble, crush, or puncture the lithium-ion battery. Do not remove the battery. Keep the battery dry by using the waterproof membrane seal when the camera may be exposed to water. Do not expose the ShotKam to high temperatures (over 110F). To charge, only use the ShotKam USB Cable with a high-power USB port on a computer or other device which is compliant with the USB standards, or the ShotKam wall charger.

            Disposal information:

            Do not dispose of either the ShotKam Camera or lithium-ion battery in a fire. Dispose of batteries in accordance with local laws and regulations.

            Correct Disposal of this Product:

            This product should not be disposed of with other household wastes throughout the EU. To prevent possible harm to the environment or human health from uncontrolled waste disposal, recycle it responsibly to promote the sustainable reuse of material resources. To return your used device, please use proper return and collection systems or contact us at www.ShotKam.com and we can take this product for environmentally safe recycling.

            Disassembling the ShotKam:

            Please NEVER attempt to repair or modify the ShotKam Camera yourself. Disassembling a ShotKam will cause damage that is NOT covered under the warranty. The ShotKam does not contain any user-replaceable parts, except the MicroSD card.

            ShotKam LLC (“Manufacturer”) warrants to the original end user (“Purchaser”) that for the 1-year (“Warranty Period”), the ShotKam camcorder (excluding any third party software) and accessories (“Product”) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship when properly installed and used for its intended purpose and in its intended operating environment.

            This warranty does NOT apply to any Product that has been either:

            • Disassembled e.g front lens or rear lock ring removed
            • Altered, repaired or modified
            • Damaged or destroyed by accidents or similar events or by any intentional, reckless or negligent acts or omissions of any party.

            In the event of a defect, return the Product to the Manufacturer, but only after instructed to do so by Manufacturer.             Can the ShotKam be shipped internationally?

            Yes, we ship internationally via FedEx. We do not have distributors outside of the USA.

            IMPORTANT: The international shipping cost does not include import fees (VAT). The ShotKam (digital video camera) falls under the Harmonized Tariff code: 852580300000.  

             

            How does the ShotKam help me to improve?

            Perhaps the most frequented question, and perhaps the most complicated answer. We could just say, “trust us on this one,” but read on for what’s behind this high-tech beauty.

             

            PERCEPTION

            The biggest culprit for unchanging scores is a false perception of why you missed. ShotKam captures the reality of the shot to give the objective feedback you need in order to make an adjustment. This reality is achieved by recording at a fixed 18 degree Field of View (FOV) and playing back at ⅓ speed, which is what your eye physically sees. (A standard 35mm lens is about 37 degrees and the GoPro Hero 5’s most narrow FOV is a sizable 64 degrees). Check out our YouTube video comparing the ShotKam with the GoPro Hero 5.  

             

            BREAK-DOWN

            We encourage our customers to study the 10 - 15 pictures (frames) right before the shot was taken. The ShotKam takes 100 frames per second (fps), and studying the 15 frames before the shot is where you will be able to see why you missed (or broke) it. Look for things like a collapsing lead, which indicates that your eyes "measured" the lead and slowed down your swing. Learning to trust your innate ability to judge lead is the most difficult yet essential skill in shotgunning. Did the crosshair rise above the target-line? This would indicate that you lifted your head off the gun and shot over the bird. Studying your hold-point, whether you matched the speed of the bird, and studying the swing and break-point are where the ShotKam can help.

             

            POINT-OF-AIM

            With the ShotKam’s reticle aligned to your Point-of-Aim (the bead of your gun), you can train your “subconscious” brain on what the correct sight-picture should be. The more you watch each ShotKam video, the more you imprint the correct sight-picture into your brain, and the faster your brain will recognize it and pull the trigger.

            Will the ShotKam fit my shotgun?

            The ShotKam automatically comes with a 12 Ga mount; it can be used for over-under or single barrels and break-action or semi-autos). We offer additional sized brackets on our website for $40 each: 12 Ga SxS, 20 Ga, 28 Ga, .410, and a Bow Mount.

            To use the Bow Mount, remove the stabilizer and screw in our mount; it will allow you to use your ShotKam while also acting as a stabilizer. It will not work for crossbows.

             

            Can the ShotKam be mounted to a rifle?

            Yes. Below are the suggested brackets for each rifle:

            - The 12G bracket (included with purchase) is used on large caliber African guns (416, 458, etc).
            - The 20G bracket is used for 30 caliber rifles (270, 30-06, 7mm, etc).
            - The 28G bracket is for 243 sized rifles

            - The .410 bracket is for 223 sized rifles

             

            Will the brackets damage my shotgun barrel?

            No. There are soft rubber pads which prevent any metal to metal contact. After any exposure to rain, the ShotKam should be removed from your gun's barrel - to be cleaned and completely dried.

             

            How do I mount my ShotKam?

            Mount the ShotKam 3 to 10 inches back from muzzle end of the barrel (NOT on barrel porting holes, but behind them). Do not mount too close to the end of the muzzle or debris will land on the lens. Please watch our video tutorial here.

             

            Is it weatherproof?

            The ShotKam is 100% weatherproof when the rear cap is on to cover the USB port. It is not, however, submersible. After exposure to rain, the lens should be cleaned with a soft cloth and the ShotKam removed from your gun's barrel - to be cleaned and completely dried.

             

            Does the 5 1/2 ounce weight include the ShotKam and attachment brackets?

            Yes.

             

            Is this an action camera?

            No, it is an accelerometer-controlled aiming system (ACAS) video camera. It was developed by an engineer with expertise in military laser-targeting systems and is designed for high shock and vibration environments. The ShotKam has a patented recoil absorption system which is combined with an accelerometer. This allows the ShotKam to buffer and only record-to-memory the few seconds before, during, and after the discharge of bows or firearms. It records video in Full HD (1080p) at 100 frames per second.

             

            Does the ShotKam require batteries?

            No. The camera has an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The battery lasts 2 - 4 years and is fully covered for 1-year. If the battery needs to be replaced after the warranty period ends, it can be replaced for $40. The battery replacement must be done from our servicing center in Florida, USA. The battery replacement will include full unit testing and additional Shock and Vibration tests.

             

            Will editing be required?

            No. The patent-pending memory buffer system, combined with the accelerometer, allows the shooter to set the recording time. Only the few seconds before, during, and after the discharge are recorded.

             

            How do I tell shots apart if I have multiple people shooting with my ShotKam?

            This mostly occurs with coaches and their students, wanting to know how to tell sets of shots apart. With the time and date stamp on each video, we typically recommend noting the time each student starts. Then, when the videos are being reviewed, you will know what sets of shots belongs to what student.

             

            Are the videos time and date stamped?

            Yes. The ShotKam boasts a Real Time Clock, and all videos include a time and date stamp.

             

            Does the ShotKam lens magnify the field of view?

            Yes, the ShotKam has a magnification that is effectively a 4X zoom. It records at a fixed 18 degrees FOV (Field of View), which is what the human eye sees.

            How does the camera adjust to varying target distances and light conditions?

            The unique light-balancing technology will automatically adjust to varying light conditions, whether indoor or outdoor. The field-of-view is optimized for targets ranging from 5 to 100 yards and is equivalent to 18 degrees. The effective magnification is 4x and this is equivalent to how your eye perceives the target distance.

             

            How does the Wi-Fi Work?

            The ShotKam has its own built-in Wi-Fi network that enables you to connect directly to your smartphone/iPad/tablet. You do not need data, Bluetooth, or any other source of Wi-Fi - just the ShotKam. The Wi-Fi antenna is internal.

             

            What is the ShotKam App?

            The ShotKam app is our mobile app used for customizing your settings and aligning your reticle. It is available for both Android or iOS on any smartphone, iPad, or Tablet that is from 2013 or newer. Please note that for optimal app performance, we recommend that the device's operating system runs on iOS 8.0 (for Apple devices), 5.1 (for Android devices) or higher. 

             

            How are the settings changed?

            First, turn your ShotKam into Wi-Fi mode by holding down the control button for 3 - 7 seconds, then releasing the button.

            Next, open the settings for your smartphone/iPad/tablet. Tap on Wi-Fi (Connections > Wi-Fi), then select the "ShotKam" network, just as you would connect to an open Wi-Fi network at a coffee shop or friend's house.

            It may say "Unsecured Network." This is normal and you are connected.

            Now, exit your phone's settings and open the ShotKam app. You can now adjust the ShotKam settings, view videos, and align the reticle.

             

            Can the pellets be seen?

            Yes. The ShotKam videos can be slowed down to see the pellets, but you will not be able to see it well against a tree background. This is not a big concern, however, as seeing the shot pattern is typically not very informative. We encourage our customers to study the 10 - 15 pictures (frames) right before the shot was taken. The ShotKam takes 100 frames per second (fps) and studying the 15 frames before the shot is where you will be able to see why you missed (or broke) it. Look for things like collapsing lead which indicates that your eyes "measured" the lead. Studying the hold-point, matching the speed of the bird, and studying the swing and break-point is where the ShotKam can help.

            CAN THE PELLETS BE SEEN FRAME-BY-FRAME?

            Yes, but only for a few frames. VLC Media Player is a free option that has frame by frame capability. Download VLC Media Player, then press "E" on the keyboard to go frame-by-frame, or use the space-bar to play / pause the video. Please watch our step-by-step video tutorial for instructions on how to go frame-by-frame.

            After the gun is discharged there is a distortion of 1 - 2 video frames (this is normal) and then there are typically 5 - 8 video frames where the individual pellets in the shot string are visible. Visibility of the pellets depends on the distance and background conditions. The wad is clear for many frames. While it is interesting to see the shot string, the primary feedback to rely on is the reticle.

             

            How do I watch the videos frame-by-frame?

            Watching your videos frame-by-frame must be done on a computer. Use the provided USB cable to connect your ShotKam to the computer and please watch our video tutorial here.

            Can I watch the videos in QuickTime (Mac) or Windows Media Player (PC)?

            Yes. The MP4 files will play in almost any media player and allow you to view your shots frame-by-frame.

            NOTE: Windows “Movies & TV” app will not play the videos frame-by-frame, nor will the VLC Media Player app for smartphones/tablets.

             

            How do I start a recording?

            The ShotKam will begin recording a video once your shotgun action is closed (a solid green LED will come on). It will record 20 - 60 seconds of video depending on the target type, but only save the video (blue LED) if there is a recoil. If there is no recoil, then the ShotKam will dismiss the recording. The ShotKam will record true and report pairs in one longer video.

             

            How do I know the shot was saved?

            A blue LED will flash after the recoil. When the shotgun action is closed, the ShotKam LED will briefly turn yellow then go solid green. If you shoot within 20 seconds of closing the action (for clays), then the blue LED will flash for a few seconds, indicating the shot was saved. You do not need to wait for it to finish blinking in order to proceed.

             

            How is a double-shot saved?

            A true or report pair is saved as a single video. For Clay Targets, anytime two shots are fired within 7 seconds of each other, the ShotKam registers it as a pair. For Flying Birds: within 9 seconds. For Ground Game: within 10 seconds. Please see Target Settings section for more.

             

            How can I capture more shots?

            In order for a shot to be saved, it must be taken within 20 seconds of closing the action (30 seconds when hunting). Check that all of your settings are on “Normal” and that your ShotKam is wakening when the action is closed (LED will turn solid green). If you are getting less than 90% of your shots recorded, select “More Sensitive” in the Recoil Sensitivity settings options. This may cause false recordings, but you will capture more shots.

             

            How can I prevent false recordings?

            Select “Less Sensitive” in the Recoil Sensitivity settings options. Also, be aware of how hard the gun is closed. Close smoothly without a “slam.”

             

            How can I waken the ShotKam more easily?

            Select “Very Sensitive” in the Wake-up Sensitivity settings options. NOTE: If you are walking with the gun or riding in a cart, it may be continually woken-up, which will significantly reduce your battery life.

             

            Can I record a test video at home?

            Yes. Ensure the gun is empty. Change the settings using the ShotKam app to the following:

            1. Target Type = Clays
            2. Gun Type = Handgun Semi-Auto
            3. Recoil Sensitivity = Very Sensitive

            Turn the ShotKam ON (standard shooting mode, one click of the power button). Gently tap the ShotKam to begin a recording; the LED will turn blue when recording and green when finished recording.

             

            Target Setting Specifications:

            The default setting for your ShotKam is "Clay Targets."  Other target types are available through the ShotKam app.

            CLAY TARGETS:

            • Sleep Mode: Initiates after 20 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery. Open and close the action or press the control button to waken the ShotKam.
            • "Normal" Recording Time: 2 seconds pre-shot, 1 second post-shot. Playback speed is 1/3 speed, therefore videos will be 9-15 seconds long.

             If two shots are taken within 7 seconds of each other (true & report pairs), then both shots will be saved as one longer video.

             

            FLYING BIRDS:

            • Sleep Mode: Initiates after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery. Either close the shotgun action, press the control button, or bump the stock of the gun to waken the ShotKam (solid green LED).
            • "Normal" Recording Time: 3 seconds pre-shot, 3 seconds post-shot. Playback speed is ⅓ speed, therefore videos will be 18 - 30 seconds long.

            If multiple shots are taken within 9 seconds of each other, then they will be saved as one longer video.

            GROUND GAME:

            • Sleep Mode: Initiates after 300 seconds (5 minutes) of inactivity to conserve battery. Either press the control button or bump the stock of the gun to waken the ShotKam.
            • "Normal" Recording Time: 6 seconds pre-shot, 20 seconds post-shot. Playback speed is ⅓ speed, therefore videos will be about one minute and 20 seconds long.

            If multiple shots are taken within 10 seconds of each other, then they will be saved as one longer video.

             

            RECORDING TIME SPECIFICATIONS:

            • "Short" = 1/2 the "normal" recording time
            • "Normal" = See above
            • "Long" = 2x the "normal" recording time

             

            How do I align the reticle?

            A smartphone or tablet is necessary to align the reticle, as it is done through the ShotKam app. Follow our manual instructions or watch our step-by-step tutorial for details.

             

            How do I change the reticle?

            In the ShotKam app, tap the setting icon and select Reticle Style. You can choose from the following:

            • Crosshair Icon
            • Gun Icon
            • Orange Circle Icon
            • Orange Crosshair Icon
            • Red Dot Icon
            • ShotKam Icon
            • (Reticle OFF)

             

            Do I need to re-align the reticle?

            The ShotKam can be moved between different shotguns of the same type and gauge without having to re-align the reticle. If you use a mixture of types (semi-auto, pump) or gauges, then the reticle will need to be re-aligned for each shotgun.

            For instance, if the ShotKam is placed 8 inches back from the muzzle of a 12 Ga break-action, then you can move it to any other 12 Ga break-action as long as you place it 8 inches from the muzzle of that gun as well. But, if you are going from a 12 Ga break-action to a 12 Ga semi-auto, then the reticle will need to be re-aligned.

             

            What if I don’t see a reticle?

            First check that the reticle setting has not been turned OFF, and that the ShotKam is not in Sleep Mode (slow flashing green LED).

            The lack of a reticle could signal that the configuration file needs reinstalled. To reinstall, use the following steps:

            1. With the ShotKam connected to the USB port, go into the root directory (either Finder or File Explorer).
            2. Delete (drag into trash) the “shtkmcfg.ini” file.
            3. If a folder called “MISC” or a file called “shtkmcfg.tmp” appears, then also delete them (drag into trash).
            4. Disconnect the ShotKam from USB port.
            5. Turn the ShotKam OFF, then ON. The factory defaults have been reinstalled. The reticle will now appear.

             

            Is the laser the same thing as the reticle (the red dot or crosshair in the videos)?

            No, they are completely unrelated. The laser is simply a beam of light that comes out of the ShotKam and is designed so that you can practice your mount at home. You can initiate the laser by holding down the control button for about 20 seconds. It cannot be on while the ShotKam is turned on in Normal Shooting Mode or Wi-Fi Mode.

            To practice your mount, turn ON the laser by holding the power button down for 15 + seconds. Next, point it into the corner of a room and try to mount the gun to your shoulder without moving the laser.

            NOTE: The laser is typically 3-6 inches below the gun’s point of aim and cannot be adjusted.
